Senior Electronics Design Engineer

Due to a recent increase in workload MK Test Systems is currently recruiting for a number of engineering positions within the expanding engineering department. As a Senior Electronic Design Engineer, you will be working as part of a multi-discipline team that are responsible for design and development of new Test and Measurement technologies for use in the Aerospace, Rail & Oil and Gas sectors.

About MK Test Systems

MK Test Systems, based in Wellington (near Taunton) Somerset, designs and manufactures Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for world leading customers within the Aerospace, Rail and Oil & Gas sectors.
With continued growth and company expansion, MK Test Systems will soon be relocating to a brand-new facility in Wellington at the end of 2018.

Essential Knowledge and Experience
• 5 to 10 years’ experience of design/development in a relevant industry
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science or Engineering discipline (or demonstrated experience working at this level)
• Microprocessor design and integration with analogue measurement devices
• Schematic Capture and PCB design using CAD tools
• Analogue circuit design, including interfacing with DACs and ADCs, filtering and signal conditioning
• Ethernet – knowledge of TCP/IP protocol and low-level interfaces
• Firmware development (Embedded ‘C’ programming for microcontrollers)
• Ability to manage projects and multi-disciplinary development teams
• Generation of test and qualification specifications, conducting the tests defined

Desirable Knowledge and Experience

• Masters level degree in a Science or Engineering discipline
• Kelvin and LCR measurement techniques
• FPGA and SoC design using VHDL (Altera device families preferred but not essential)
• High Voltage DC and AC design
• Design for EMC and EMC qualification testing/documentation
• Product qualification and certification – CE marking and compliance testing
• Programme Management skills and discipline
• Generation of requirement specifications from customer problem description
• Mechanical design using 2D and/or 3D CAD (AutoSketch)
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously, reporting to the Engineering Director, on various design and development projects within the following areas:
• Electronic Systems for measurement of voltage, current, resistance and impedance
• Micro-electronics – Interfacing with PC and peripherals for the control of systems and measurement of units under test
• Research and development of new measurement techniques and technology
• High voltage cable harness testing systems using established building blocks
• Systems and ergonomic design and layout to ensure all customer requirements are integrated into the designated enclosure dimensions
• System test and qualification

On occasion the following duties may also be required:
• Support to Customer Service Department in resolution of installation, commissioning and in-service issues or problems, either at the factory or customer premises
• Support to Sales for preparation of technical bids and customer requirements capture
• Travel to customers’ premises, in the UK, Europe or Worldwide

Software Engineer

We are currently expanding to meet demand and require an additional permanent .Net Software Engineer to join the Engineering Team.

Working alongside other members of the software team you will be involved in the full development lifecycle on a number of exciting projects.  This will involve gathering requirements from internal and external stakeholders, working with the wider team to design, develop and test the company’s industry leading Automated Test Management Software product.

In addition to the .Net WPF software development the software team also maintain and support the company’s legacy products, written in VB and embedded C.

Essential

  • Strong “Software Engineering ” fundamentals and practical experience
  • Microsoft C# .Net development knowledge with WPF
  • Proven track record of software development
  • Good knowledge of SQL and SQL Server
  • Unit testing frameworks

Desirable

  • Practical knowledge and experience of Agile
  • Use of source code version control
  • Understanding of SOAP/RESTful Web Services

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop code to the required standard to support the product road map for the current generation of Automated Test Management Software, as agreed with the Software Development Manager
  • Contribute to Scrum process
  • Ensuring code quality processes and procedures are followed and adhered to, especially regarding the release and regression testing of the core product.
  • Assist the Sales team in understanding customer requirements and influencing the implementation of MK Test Systems.
  • Investigate opportunities for MK products and ways to improve software functionality to meet the requirement.
  • Provide support and advice, onsite if necessary, to customers on both existing and new products as appropriate
  • Supporting Customer Service Department in resolution of installation, commissioning and in-service issues or problems which will sometimes involve travel to customers’ premises, possibly outside the UK.

Service Engineer

We are currently expanding to meet demand and require an additional permanent Service Support Engineer to join Our Operations Team, this position is based in the UK but includes worldwide travel.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivery technical support via the telephone, email or customer site visits.
  • Calibrating customer equipment and general servicing including Module swaps
  • Investigating problems and diagnosing and repairing faults at customer sites or back at base
  • Recognising customer requirements and opportunities for Spares & Training
  • Writing reports and documentation as required
  • Preparing quotations for future support contracts and arranging calibration dates
  • Ensuring safe working conditions for customers using MK’s equipment
  • Training Customers using the MK training programme

Previous experience within an Electrical Testing environment

Job Role

The role will involve:

  • Stock Control
  • Building equipment against drawings and Quality Control with the department
  • Soldering and crimping experience important.
  • Previous experience within an electronics / Testing environment would be an advantage however specific product training and familiarization will be provided.
